On March 27, 2026, Mr. Zhang Wenlong, President of The Sino‑American Business and Travel Association, accompanied by his wife, together with Ms. Ren Meiqing, Chairwoman of the Association, attended the award ceremony honoring H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, with the International Statesperson Award presented by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia. The ceremony was held at The Ritz‑Carlton, Philadelphia, with more than 300 distinguished guests from local political, business and academic circles in attendance.

As the highest honor of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the award recognizes outstanding global leaders committed to advancing peace, freedom and lasting influence in global affairs. President Mahama was awarded for his contributions to democratic governance, international diplomacy, security in West Africa and international partnerships. He is the first African leader to receive this award since its establishment in 1973.

In his speech, President Mahama addressed democratic leadership, regional security in West Africa and Ghana‑US relations, particularly in the context of Philadelphia as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Lauren Swartz, CEO of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, praised President Mahama’s career as a perfect reflection of the award’s core values.

Coinciding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, President Mahama’s visit further strengthened diplomatic cooperation and investment exchanges between Ghana and the United States. He also interacted with the Ghana national football team, which is set to compete in Philadelphia. As a 2026 World Cup host city, Philadelphia deepened tourism and cultural ties with Ghana, providing an international platform for Ghanaian fans and enterprises.
